Mopix

One of my recent discoveries is the Mopix system for movie theaters. Mopix is the system that allows for "Rear Window Captioning" and "DVS Theatrical," which is Descriptive Video Service for movie theaters. I have provided the links below to find out more about Mopix and to their webpage that allows you to find out if there is a theater near you that has Mopix installed.

Descriptive Video on DVD

Another issue I have recently become involved in is getting the manufacturers of DVDs to provide them with DVS. There are quite a few VHS tapes with DVS and given the increased capasity of DVDs, it wouldn't take much for them to add DVS to the DVD. However, there seems to be an attitude on the part of the studio executives that there isn't enough demand out there to warrant adding DVS to their DVDs.

Patricia Cox, Outreach Assistant Media Access Group at WGBH, is wanting to receive letters from people who would like to have DVS on DVDs so she can get them to the people who can make this happen. You can E-mail your letters to her at:
