Accessible Software and
Window-Eyes Sets

All of the set files are in self-extracting .exe files. I created them with Winzip 8.1 so they will default to unzipping the sets into c:\wineyes\users\default. If you did not install Window-Eyes into the default folder, you will want to edit the folder accordingly.

ACB RADIO TUNER

The American Council of the Blind has a group of internet broadcasts over "ACB Radio" and they provide a tuner which makes it very easy to listen to any of their broadcasts. It speaks quite well without set files, but I decided to create set files for it because it was very distracting to use their shortcut keys and have window-eyes say something completely irrelevant. The ACB Radio tuner has a shortcut for the "ACB RADIO CAFE" which is "control+c", which window-eyes speaks as "copy to clipboard". I created a .key file associated with the sets to solve this problem. You can down load the set files here: acbtuner.exe ACB Radio tuner set files (updated 12/06/02)
You can down load the ACB Radio tuner from: ACBRadio tuner

Anytime 7.1

I have tried most of the calendar programs written for visually impaired access and found them greatly lacking. So, I began experimenting with various off-the-shelf calendar programs. Of those that I tried, Anytime Deluxe 7.1 by Individual Software, was by far the most powerful and screen reader friendly once I figured out some of its idiosyncrasies.

I wrote set files for Anytime Deluxe 7.1, which you can down load here: Anytime.exe Anytime Deluxe 7.1 set files (updated 01/06/03)
Anytime.txt the Anytime readme file

If you are interested in a really good calendar program that allows you to schedule appointments and events with reminder alarms, a good address book, etc., Check out:Anytime Deluxe
Apparently, they have gone to version 8. My understanding is that version 8 is very similar in the calendar and address book. I understand that the sets will work, with some slight modifications.

Comctl32

One of the places that Windows uses comctl32 is in the control panel. One place that causes some problems is in the Display, Settings. It takes a bit of work with the mouse keys to find the screen resolution, etc. With these set files, you can read the screen resolution with alt+3, the color quality with alt+4 and see which display you have selected with alt+5.

comctl32.exe updated (April 26, 2003
This will unzip the files, comctl32.000, comctl32.we and comctl32.txt into your default c:\wineyes\users\default folder. I always recommend backing up your existing comctl32.000 and comctl32.we in case you run into any problems after installing these set files.

Ecleaner

Here is a free utility that does not need set files. Here is a quote from its readme file:

eCleaner v2.01 is a freeware utility that you can use to 'clean up' your e-mail messages by:
 - Removing those annoying greater than symbols that accumulate when an e-mail is forwarded several times
 - Word wrapping fragmented sentences
 - Removing HTML code
 - Removing headers."

You can down load the zip file here. It is very small and only contains the install file and the readme.txt file.

FreeTime

FreeTime is a very simple, free, countdown timer with optional alarm for Windows. I ran across it when I was looking for such a utility to remind me to get off the computer and finish cooking dinner, etc. I created a set file for it just so you could double check how much time was left with alt+t, but it really doesn't need any set files to work perfectly well with Window-Eyes. You can down load the program here: Free Time 2.1 (ftsetup.exe)
You can get my set file here: freetime-sets.exe (updated May 24, 2003

GoldWave

The best sound file editor for blind computer users in my opinion is GoldWave. It works tremendously well with Window-Eyes, and the author has built in lots of keyboard commands where other sound editors rely heavily on mouse clicks. You can check it out at:GoldWave

GoldWave 5.06 is the latest release as of 01/30/04. Here are my set files for GoldWave5:Goldwave5sets.exe (updated May 1, 2003 When you unzip the set files into your c:\wineyes\users\default folder, goldwave.we will be over written, but do not worry about this. GoldWave 4 sets and GoldWave 5 sets share the same goldwave.we file. The GoldWave 5 sets are associated with different window classes, so there won't be any conflict with GoldWave 4.

goldwave.txt the goldwave readme file

Here is a tip from Jim Kitchen, who got it from David Greenwood on using GoldWave to clean up sounds. (It works with any supported format.).

To make really clear sounds after recording your sound file, do the following:
1. In GoldWave, load your test sound, for simplicity make it a small phrase or a one word sound.
2. set the start and end points to enclose a small piece of the file where there is only the background noise you wish to eliminate, and then hit control+c to copy it to the GoldWave buffer. Now you have a sample of the background noise.
3. Hit control+a to select the entire sound again.
4. From the effects menu, select filter, and then Noise reduction.
5. Then select Remove Hiss and Tab over to the Reduction envelope and then select "Using clipboard." Then select OK, and you will have a noise free recording.

Here are two samples to illustrate the above suggestion. of how to clean up a sound file with goldwave.

Laplink FTP

Laplink FTP is a very speech friendly, free, FTP program. It is fairly easy to use and to setup. I found I had to do very little to make it work extremely well with Window-Eyes.

Nero Burning ROM Set Files

Here are my set files for Nero Burning ROM. The sets are very basic as Nero does not really need set files, but I created a couple windows to check your status while burning a CD.

HTML VALIDATOR

HTML Validator is a great program for validating your HTML code. However, the newer versions are not accessible to Window-Eyes 4.211 and earlier due to the menu system the author began to use. The latest version is accessible with Window-Eyes 4.5, which you can read about on my web page for Window-eyes 4.5 set files, Accessible Software and Window-Eyes 4.5 set files
You can also use it to write your html code, but I personally prefer to use NoteTab Pro for writing the code. Below you can down load my set files for HTML Validator. Version 3.0, is the free "lite" version. The sets also work for HTML Validator 5.03 Professional.

If you want the free accessible lite version click on this linkcselte300.exe
If you want to try the non-accessible free 3.5 version, you can use it on the web from his main page: htmlvalidator.com just enter the URL of the site you wish to validate and see what you get.

After trying out the free version, if you want to purchase an accessible version, E-mail:support@htmlvalidator.com and let him know you need the accessible version that will work with Window-Eyes 4.211 and earlier.

WordPerfect 10 set files

wp10sets.exe (updated 02/20/03) WordPerfect 10 set files for Window-Eyes.
I modified the WordPerfect 9 sets so they work with WordPerfect 10. I made a couple changes and one addition, which is detailed in the wp10readme.txt file included.

In order to print in colors, you will want the RGB color values. I have it in a WordPerfect table. It is contained in rgb-color.zip, which when unzipped will be rgb-color.wpd. You can get the zip file here: rgb-color.zip
You can also view it as a table here on my web site at: rgb-color.htm

I have updated my WordPerfect 10 sets for Window-Eyes 4.5 Beta3. Please read the wp10readme-we45.txt file, particularly concerning spell checking and the thesaurus.

Window-Eyes manuals

I merged the Window-Eyes manual ascii files into one large ascii file. I stored them in standard zip files so they would not be such large files for down load. Just unzip them where you want them. The zip files are 198 KB.
The manuals are presented this way with GW Micro's permission.

we4-211manual.zip, the entire Window-Eyes 4.211 manual in one ASCII text file..

we4-2manual.zip The entire Window-Eyes 4.2 manual in one ASCII text file.

Triple Talk Speech Synthesizer

If you want an excellent speech synthesizer that works with all Windows versions, I would recommend the Triple Talk by Access Solutions. It sounds much the same as the Double Talk, but it will work in Windows XP, which the Double Talk won't.
You can read all about it and get the most recent drivers at:Access Solutions
