Accessible Software and
Window-Eyes 4.5 Sets

All of the set files are in self-extracting .exe files. I created them with Winzip so they will default to unzipping the sets into c:\wineyes\users\default. If you did not install Window-Eyes into the default folder, you will want to edit the folder path accordingly.

ACB RADIO TUNER

The American Council of the Blind has a group of internet broadcasts over "ACB Radio" and they provide a tuner which makes it very easy to listen to any of their broadcasts. It speaks quite well without set files, but I decided to create set files for it because it was very distracting to use their shortcut keys and have window-eyes say something completely irrelevant. The ACB Radio tuner has a shortcut for the "ACB RADIO CAFE" which is "control+c", which window-eyes speaks as "copy to clipboard". I created a .key file associated with the sets to solve this problem. You can down load the set files here: acbtuner-we45.exe ACB Radio tuner set files (updated 12/06/02)
You can down load the ACB Radio tuner from: ACBRadio tuner

Anytime Deluxe 7.1and 9

I have tried most of the calendar programs written for visually impaired access and found them greatly lacking. So, I began experimenting with various off-the-shelf calendar programs. Of those that I tried, Anytime Deluxe by Individual Software, was by far the most powerful and screen reader friendly once I figured out some of its idiosyncrasies.

I wrote set files for Anytime Deluxe 7.1 and have modified them for version 9, which you can down load below: Anytime9sets.exe Anytime Deluxe 9 set files (updated March 16, 2004
anytime9.txt the Anytime 9 readme file
Anytime-we45.exe Anytime Deluxe 7.1 set files (updated 01/06/03)

If you are interested in a really good calendar program that allows you to schedule appointments and events with reminder alarms, a good address book, etc., Check out:Individual Software's home page

Ecleaner

Here is a free utility that does not need set files. Here is a quote from its readme file:

eCleaner v2.01 is a freeware utility that you can use to 'clean up' your e-mail messages by:
 - Removing those annoying `greater than' symbols that accumulate when an e-mail is forwarded several times
 - Word wrapping fragmented sentences
 - Removing HTML code
 - Removing headers.

You can down load the zip file here. It is very small and only contains the install file and the readme.txt file.

FreeTime

FreeTime is a very simple, free, countdown timer with optional alarm for Windows. I ran across it when I was looking for such a utility to remind me to get off the computer and finish cooking dinner, etc. I created a set file for it just so you could double check how much time was left with alt+t, but it really doesn't need any set files to work perfectly well with Window-Eyes. You can down load the program here: Free Time 2.1 (ftsetup.exe)
You can get my set file here: freetime-sets-we45.exe (updated May 24, 2003

GoldWave

The best sound file editor for blind computer users in my opinion is GoldWave. It works tremendously well with Window-Eyes, and the author has built in lots of keyboard commands where other sound editors rely heavily on mouse clicks. You can check it out at:GoldWave

GoldWave 5 is the latest release. Check often for updates. Here are my Window-Eyes 4.5 set files for GoldWave5:Goldwave5sets-we45.exe (updated July 7, 2004)When you unzip the set files into your c:\wineyes\users\default folder, goldwave.we will be over written, but do not worry about this. GoldWave 4 sets and GoldWave 5 sets share the same goldwave.we file. The GoldWave 5 sets are associated with different window classes, so there won't be any conflict with GoldWave 4.

goldwave.txt the goldwave readme file

Here is a tip from Jim Kitchen, who got it from David Greenwood on using GoldWave to clean up sounds. (It works with any supported format.).

To make really clear sounds after recording your sound file, do the following:
1. In GoldWave, load your test sound, for simplicity make it a small phrase or a one word sound.
2. set the start and end points to enclose a small piece of the file where there is only the background noise you wish to eliminate, and then hit control+c to copy it to the GoldWave buffer. Now you have a sample of the background noise.
3. Hit control+a to select the entire sound again.
4. From the effects menu, select filter, and then Noise reduction.
5. Then select Remove Hiss and Tab over to the Reduction envelope and then select "Using clipboard." Then select OK, and you will have a noise free recording.

Here are two samples to illustrate the above suggestion. of how to clean up a sound file with goldwave.

IVOCALIZE 3

Here are some new set files for the Ivocalize Client version 3, which require Window-Eyes 4.5 Service Pack 3. These sets are in process. Chris Kiler has helped me sort out some of the preferred behaviors. John Brinton made some helpful modifications to the sets. The sets will speak the name of the person speaking as well as the names of people joining or leaving a session.

If you want to try them out, just download the exe file and run it to install them into the default Window-Eyes folder.

Nero Burning ROM Set Files

Here are my set files for Nero Burning ROM. The sets are very basic as Nero does not really need set files, but I created a couple windows to check your status while burning a CD.

NoteTab Pro

HTML VALIDATOR

HTML Validator is a great program for validating your HTML code. Even better news, the combination of the latest version of HTML Validator and Window-Eyes 5; makes the program completely accessible!
To get the Window-Eyes 5 sets for HTML Validator 7, go to my Window-Eyes 5 page: Window-Eyes 5 set files
Here, you can down load my set files for HTML Validator 6.50 and Window-Eyes 4.5.

html-validator-we45.exe HTML-Validator 6.5 set files (updated 10/05/03)

If you want to try the program out on-line, go to:www.htmlvalidator.com and enter the URL of the web site you wish to validate and see how it works. You can also down load the free version from that site.

If you are doing a lot of web page design, I would highly recommend the Professional version. It does far more than the free version. You can read all about it on their web site, (use the link above).

Window-Eyes 4.5 manual

I merged the Window-Eyes manual ascii files into one large ascii file. I stored it in a standard zip file so it would not be so large for down load. Just unzip it where you want them. The zip file is 230 KB.
The manual is presented this way with GW Micro's permission.

we45manual.zip, the entire Window-Eyes 4.5 manual in one ASCII text file..

Triple Talk Speech Synthesizer

If you want an excellent speech synthesizer that works with all Windows versions, I would recommend the Triple Talk by Access Solutions. It sounds much the same as the Double Talk, but it will work in Windows XP, which the Double Talk won't.
You can read all about it and get the most recent drivers at:Access Solutions
