Accessible Software and
Window-Eyes 6 Sets

I am only adding set files here that are either not on the Window-Eyes 6 CD, or that I modified after the CD was released.

All of the set files are in self-extracting .exe files. I created them with Winzip so they will default to unzipping the sets into c:\wineyes\users\default. If you did not install Window-Eyes into the default folder, you will want to edit the folder path accordingly.

GoldWave

The best sound file editor for blind computer users in my opinion is GoldWave. It works tremendously well with Window-Eyes, and the author has built in lots of keyboard commands where other sound editors rely heavily on mouse clicks. You can check it out at:GoldWave

GoldWave 5.x is the latest release. Check the Goldwave site often for updates.

I'm in the process of updating my set files for Window-Eyes. Check back when the next version of Window-Eyes is released. In the mean time, below is information on using GoldWave for tagging MP3 files.

Miscellaneous Extras

I recently received a variation on the old Abbott and Costello "who's on first" routine. I decided to produce it with different speech synthesizers using Window-Eyes and GoldWave. The link below will play the mp3 file. Enjoy.

Here is a tip from Jim Kitchen, who got it from David Greenwood on using GoldWave to clean up sounds. (It works with any supported format.).

To make really clear sounds after recording your sound file, do the following:
1. In GoldWave, load your test sound, for simplicity make it a small phrase or a one word sound.
2. set the start and end points to enclose a small piece of the file where there is only the background noise you wish to eliminate, and then hit control+c to copy it to the GoldWave buffer. Now you have a sample of the background noise.
3. Hit control+a to select the entire sound again.
4. From the effects menu, select filter, and then Noise reduction.
5. Then select Remove Hiss and Tab over to the Reduction envelope and then select "Using clipboard." Then select OK, and you will have a noise free recording.

Here are two samples to illustrate the above suggestion. of how to clean up a sound file with goldwave.

GroupWise GroupWise 6.5.x set files

At my work place they use GroupWise for E-mail--I decided that it was time to figure out some Window-Eyes sets for it. So, here are my sets so far. I have the spell checker working well and hot keys for replying or forwarding a message. Be sure and read the readme file included in the sets. You can also read it on line by following the link below the set file link.

NoteTab Pro set files

Here are my sets for NoteTab Pro 5 and Window-Eyes 6. They should also work with NoteTab Pro 4.8x and above.

Overdrive Media Console set files for Window-Eyes 6

I have been using the Unabridged Audio books project since almost its beginning. I created some simple sets to help my experience of the Overdrive Media Console and Explorer. I offer them here to any other Window-Eyes 6 users.

I have not done a readme file for these sets as yet. When you are listening to a book, alt+1 will read the time at which you are in the book. Alt+2 will read the total time of the part you are listening to. Alt+3 will read the part name and length that you are currently listening to which is highlighted in the list of parts.
When you are down loading a title, alt+8 will read the percentage of the part that has down loaded. Alt+9 will read the name of the book and the part and the percentage of it that has down loaded. I set a hyperactive window to read window #9 when that part has reached 95 percent down loaded.
The file names are: MEDIACONSOLE.we, MEDIACONSOLE.000, and MEDIACONSOLE.001:
overdrive-we6sets.exe

HTML VALIDATOR

HTML Validator is a great program for validating your HTML code. Even better news, the combination of the latest version of HTML Validator and Window-Eyes; what were previously inaccessible menus are now totally accessible! Below, you can down load my newest set files for HTML Validator 8.x.

cse80we6sets.exe HTML-Validator 8.x set files (updated December 10, 2006)
cse8we6readme.txt the readme file for Window-Eyes sets.
If you want to try the program out on-line, go to:www.htmlvalidator.com and enter the URL of the web site you wish to validate and see how it works. You can also down load the free version from that site.

If you are doing a lot of web page design, I would highly recommend the Professional version. It does far more than the free version. You can read all about it on their web site, (use the link above).

Triple Talk Speech Synthesizer

If you want an excellent speech synthesizer that works with all Windows versions, I would recommend the Triple Talk by Access Solutions. It sounds much the same as the Double Talk, but it will work in Windows XP, which the Double Talk won't.
You can read all about it and get the most recent drivers at:Access Solutions
